THIN BOX Original 1961 Aurora Frankenstein Model Kit
Here’s a REAL rarity! The very first issue of the Aurora Frankenstein Model Kit from 1961. This kit is credited with kicking off the model making monster craze for years to follow. This first issue box is much thinner than any re-issue that followed. The model kit within is packed tightly into the box and it’s easy to see why Aurora deepened the box for all further re-issues and releases. (If you look at later releases, you can see that Aurora simply extended the background color on the sides of the box, rather than re-working the art entirely.)
Condition: The box is in nice shape with nice, rich coloring throughout. There is slight shelf wear on the edges with a lower right corner ding that is lightly creasing the box top. Overall, presents and displays very nicely. Copyright 1961 printed on the side.
Box bottom: Has light tape residue on the outside. A split in the box bottom on the upper left side, probably from the kit being packed so tightly. Overall, still holds together nicely. Inside of box bottom looks fine.
Instructions: Look good and are very clean.
Parts: All are present from checking against the instructions. Some parts still attached to sprues. No paint or glue. Parts look untouched.
If you are a fan of the Aurora line of classic monster kits, this is the one you want to have in the collection.
